  • Donating old clothes
  • Volunteering at a soup kitchen

  • Making “care kits” with shampoo, toothbrushes, combs, etc. to donate to homeless shelters

The KWM School of Opportunity is an employment pathways program for young people experiencing disadvantage. Through KWM School of Opportunity and in partnership with The Smith Family, we are leveraging:

  • the skills, resources and experiences we have in our Shared & Support Services teams; and
  • our client networks.
  • to create powerful opportunities for young people.

KWMobilise is KWM’s platform which enables partners and staff to volunteer their skills or goodwill for projects and organisations aligned to our program’s objective of reducing inequality & poverty. Community legal centres, NGOs, not-for-profits registered as a charity and social enterprises can submit opportunities. KWMobilise has two streams – Specialist Services and Community Services. The KWM Community Impact Central Group then assesses the requests and if they are approved, the opportunity is posted on KWMobilise. KWM partners and staff can then browse the opportunity and self-select which one they would like to be involved in.

Pathways is a uniquely flexible paid work experience program designed with and specifically for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students. Pathways is currently being piloted in our Sydney centre, with the assistance of UTS, the Human Rights Law Centre, AGL Energy and Tabcorp. Pathways will enable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander law students to experience various career pathways available in the legal profession. It will support students to develop industry specific skills and networks, with the aim of contributing to increased Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander participation across the legal profession.

In addition to gaining valuable work experience in KWM legal teams, a series of skills-based workshops and networking experiences with in house corporate legal teams are provided for Pathways students. Students also are provided opportunities to undertake secondments with community legal centres, justice agencies and to attend the National Indigenous Law Conference.
