Gareth Howe

Gareth is a Special Counsel in the Sydney office of King & Wood Mallesons where he specialises in major infrastructure projects and transactions (including privatisations) and project financing.

Gareth’s work involves all aspects of major projects including debt, equity and projects aspects of these transactions.  Gareth is known for his client focused approach, having acted for governments, the private sector and financiers.

Significant recent transactions include:

  • Advising John Laing in respect of the divestment of its interests in the Optus Stadium PPP in Perth
  • Acting for Transurban in respect of its acquisition (as part of a consortium) of a 51% interest in the WestConnex road network
  • Acting for Transurban as equity investor in the acquisition of Queensland Motorways Limited by Transurban, ADIA and Australian Super
  • Acting for Qube and Aurizon in respect of the Moorebank Intermodal A$2B freight hub development in Sydney
  • Acting for Hastings Funds Management, China Merchants Group & Port of Newcastle on the privatisation of the Port of Newcastle and its subsequent refinancings
  • Advising an underbidder on the NSW Land and Property Information privatisation transaction in 2017 and the Victorian Land Titles Office privatisation transaction in 2018
  • Acting for an equity investor on its underbid for AusGrid and for Endeavour Energy
  • Acting for the Northern Territory Government on its Secure Facilities PPP project
  • Acting for a syndicate of banks on the $1.5 billion financing of the WestConnex M5 project and a syndicate of banks on the $1.73 billion financing of the WestConnex M4 project
  • Advising Queensland Airports Limited on its financing matters
  • Advising the senior lenders on the stage 1 and the stage 2 augmentation and refinancing of Gold Coast Light Rail PPP
